Finally, I now have the time to buckle down and start my user’s review for Gizmo, my first ever laptop. I must agree that a laptop is a big investment, and one has to be sure about whether they are getting their money’s worth. Needless to say I poured a lot of time doing research about the subject and scouting on what available brands/units/specs are out there in the Philippine market.
In the end, I took home a 13.3″ Core Duo notebook in shiny silver Al-Mg alloy casing, with enhanced video power from its ATI X1300 Mobility Radeon chip. It’s from BLUE, a Filipino brand from Axis Global, Inc., though further research on the notebook PC revealed it’s original manufacturer to be Arima Corp. of Taiwan (who produced laptops for one of the bigger Amaerican brands). Its model name is Radon [W310], and I have christened it MyToy Gizmo (well, if you’ve read this article, it originally was named as ‘MyToy’ – this will give you the reason why I renamed it to Gizmo).
Gizmo on a laptop riser I bought from Octagon. If you look hard enough and recognize it – it’s the intro sequence of Rome:Total War
A quick rundown of Gizmo’s specs:
- 13.3″ WXGA Display 1280 x 800
- Intel Core Duo T2400 1.83 GHz processor
- 1 GB DDR2 RAM
- ATI X1300Â Video Card with HyperMemory (256 MB max.)
- 60 GB SATA Hitachi Harddisk
- Built-n Intel Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0
- SD / MC / MMC Card reader
- PCI-E Mini slot
- DVD +/- RW
It runs WindowsXP SP2, but is fully Vista-capable. I won’t be upgrading to the new Windows OS yet unitl I get confident that it will run all games I’d like to load up in it.
Oh, and I’d like to calrify that this review is from a user’s perspective. I’m a typical engineering worker in need of a mobile computing device which the office has not given out yet. So I decided to get one. I’m a newbie techie now engrossed in the world of computers since one of my passions is all about computers and graphics and performance – no, not software programming – gaming! hehehe… I’m a PC gamer since my Mom sent me an IBM PS2 when I was in highschool. I’ve had one more PC to use before I bought a desktop in 2005. It has always been my dream to have a laptop and, thank God for the graces, now that I have one, I’d like to share my experience with it to those who would want to have it for themselves as well. <As a disclaimer, I don’t work for the company who sells this PC nor do I intend to sell this kind of laptop. I’m just a user.>
Size Does Matter
As a gamer, I wanted a bigscreen laptop – the bigger the better! so when I checked out the available stuff @ www.laptopking.com.ph, I filtered out all the small stuff. I thought I’d go for the ASUS S96J Whitebook – since it’s a 15.4″ Core Duo wonder with an ATI X1600 Mobility Radeon chip that’s just perfect for the highend games of today (and half of tomorrow).
When I got to see how big it really was, I couldn’t imagine myself lugging it around to meetings. It’s just too big! <sigh>. I browsed over to the otehr 14.1″ laptops available at the store. But I still found the size too big. Finally, they showed me the Radon, and I knew it was the perfect size.
The 13.3″ WXGA latchless screen is just perfect – a bit smaller than a regular 14.1″ and not too small as a 12.1″. It gives you the right resolution and clarity for work-related activities, or for gaming. It’s maximum resolution is 1280 x 800 pixels. For games, widescreen support is growing these days although there are still those that gives a setting of 1280 x 768, instead of x 800, which, when selected makes no difference.
To give an illustration about its size, the laptop is as big as an 8 1/2″ x 11″ paper, and a little less than an inch thick. It’s lightweight and very portable.
Pentium M or Dual Core?
When I bought it last December, Intel has just introduced their Core 2 Duo processor. I knew it was time to buy me a dual core processor. But the proces for the Pentium M laptops are still attractive and it may be enough for me. But realizing the benefits of a Core Duo system, especially during multiple applications operations, I went with teh Core Duo. My office PC is now choking whenever I use it for work coz of all the apps I run on it simultaneously.
And the Radon just had that. As far as I know, it doesn’t come with any options. So that’s another check on my list.
One side effect of having a dual core processor for gaming is this – the AI gets smarter. Honest! Aside from quicker loading times, I feel the difference on how the AI reacts to my gameplay when I’m using the desktop and when i’m using Gizmo.
First Impressions
When I examined the design of the laptop, I thought it to be logical and well-thought-of. It has 2 USB ports on the left, adequately spaced for those fatter-thatn-usual flash disks, and one on the right side. The USB on the right is usually used for the mouse.

LH Side – shown here with a USB DirectLink cable I use to hookup my desktop and Gizmo

RH Side shows the optical mouse and the power cord plugged
The exhaust vent is on the left, while the optical drive is on the right. I find this logical since it’s easier to operate the optical drive with my right hand (being the right-handed guy that I am). The left side has the Card readers, Mini PCI-E Card Slot, the Firewire port, and the S-Video Out. On the right, aside form the drive and USB port, the jacks for the headphones and mike are located forward of the drive, and the power socket at the far end.

The LAN and modem connections are at the back, as well as the VGA output socket.
It’s cool design features include:
- Latchless
- Touch-sensitive keys
The touch-sensitive keys are located at the upper left part of the keyboard area:

It’s for turning on the bluetooth and wi-fi, instant Internet Explorer launch, and instant E-mail launch.
There is a down side to he Radon’s overall design. It’s how it handles the heat. The left side of the touchpad gets really hot, especially if you’re running some graphics heavy stuff. That’s where the processor and hardrive is. But even with this flaw, the Radon’s design copes with it aptly – it’s on the left side. Most right-handed persons would use their right hand navigating via touchpad and the adverse heat will not affect them that much. That’s how I’ve been using it and the heat on that part of the notebook PC is not a problem.

[...] Blue Radon W310 – User’s Review (Part 1 of 2) [...]
May 4, 2007 at 10:51 pm
Nice laptop. I name my ‘toys’ as well – my nano is named Ryeton.
May 4, 2007 at 11:07 pm
Wow, where’d you get the cool name?
…I should be more adventurous in naming my future gadgets…
May 9, 2007 at 11:44 pm
Hi guilar – Have been researching about this brand through the internet and friends and people at computer stores, and I’ve got very little info so far. Thankfully I found your review. What I’d like to ask you (I hope you get back to me soon!) is how good Blue’s tech support is. A friend told me just now that his friend says Blue has pretty bad tech support. I don’t know whether to believe this, since said friend works for a competitor company. I hope you get back to me and share your thoughts on this. Please!
May 10, 2007 at 6:57 pm
Hello imogen,
thanks for visiting my blog and finding some information there useful. actually,
i’ve also done some research on their tech support. good thing i have not had a chance to test it out (meaning, gizmo’s up to now). Patrick Estrella, a fellow I met through this blog, has had the chance to test it, since his laptop broke down (a blue argon) while he was trying to load up linux… his feedback is that they repaired his unit and he’s ok with his laptop so far. you can check his blog in my blogroll.
unfortunately, when i tried e-mailing their tech support, they didn’t respond. it was a simple question of how to burn a DVD. Pat gave me the reply from his query before. the e-mail was from a specific person from axis global. i tried contacting their tech support via their website.
my intent is to get to know people with blue laptops and try to get feedback from them as well. i’m a member of tipidpc.com and that’s where i try to connect with people with blue laptops. problem is, there’s no negative or positive feedback. this blog plus tipidpc.com is my source of information.

ey! thanks for the informative review. really helpful for people like me who is looking for affordable but very usable notebook.
anyway, how’s the battery life of your Blue Radon? how many hours (battery duration)
August 9, 2007 at 9:37 pm
Hi Merryjazz,
Batter life for the radon is around 2.5 hours with optimum brightness. It goes down to two hours at full bright conditions or when using graphics-intensive apps. Thanks for visiting my blog! hope this bit of information helps!
August 12, 2007 at 3:58 pm
hi ya, i also stumbled on your blog because I saw the Blue Radon at PC Express yesterday and researching more about thhe spex of this laptop…
what is the difference between Centrino and AMD. I initially thought Blue Radon but my friend said… “it’s cheap kasi Centrino lang at di AMD, Centrino is older”… what does that mean?
Thanks for the help!
August 12, 2007 at 4:30 pm
Hey guys…
I havent really decided if I’m getting this laptio… so I need more info and suggestions. Here are the spex of the Blue Radon W310 I saw at PC Express yesterday.
BLUE Radon W310
Intel® Centrino® Duo Mobile Technology
Intel® Core™ Duo T2350 (1.8GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 533MHz FSB)
Mobile Intel® 945GM Chipset
1GB DDR2 533MHz
ATI Mobility Radeon X1300
13.1 WXGA TFT Glare
120GB SATA Hard Disk Drive
DVD-RW Multi Drive
Built-in Firewire, Bluetooth
Built-in 10/100/1000 Gigabit LAN
Built-in Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG
Windows Vistaâ„¢ Premium
This costs Php 40k (see http://www.pcexpress.com.ph/showcase/profile.asp?id=1288)
… contrary to what I read in your tipidpc forum that your Blue Radon W310 costs Php 60K something.
The saleslady at PC Express also said that this laptop doesnt heat up because of the Al-Mg alloy casing… how come roycantos in tipidpc said that his Blue Radon W310 heats up to 48 degrees Celsius? Gosh…
SOS…
August 13, 2007 at 7:03 pm
Wow, jowan, that’s a real bargain!… I’m surprised at how much the price has dropped – better check in with PC Express. It may be a glitch. At PC Corner, It’s still around 50k+. But if that price is true, then I’d be telling my officemates right now (who are looking for decent, yet affordable laptop models).
1st off – regarding centrino and AMD, I don’t think that’s the proper comparison.
Centrino Duo is from Intel. If your friend really knows his/her specs, then what he/she should have told you was whether the AMD processor was a Turion 64 or Athlon or Sempron or Turion 64 X2. Intel and AMD both manufacture processing chips, and the ‘model’ is whether it’s a centrino (intel) or turion/athlon/sempron (AMD).
Centrino Duo is one of the newer models from Intel. Celeron is the ’slowest’ model (and should be defunct/avoided – maybe this was what your friend was referring to; I always advise against celeron). Then of course, you have the core 2 duos around.
For AMD, celeron=sempron, turion/turion64/turion64X2=centrino/centrino duo/core 2 duo
There are a lot of threads in tipidpc about whether Intel or AMD is the best processor chip maker around. For me, my desktop is an AMD Athlon64 while my lappie is powered by Intel’s Centrino Duo.
roycantos is right in that the temperature builds up on the right side, where the pocessor and harddrives are. it’s bearable though and if you don’t mind it (like me – i live with it and have lived with it for 8 months now).
Hope this helps!
August 13, 2007 at 7:16 pm
Let me correct myself…
turion/turion64/turion 64X2 = centrino mobile/core duo/core 2 duo
Centrino refers to the chipset technology, while the names above are for the processors.
August 28, 2007 at 12:07 pm
hey guys, consider me part of the blue radon community
got the one at pcx.
for those still thinking about buying this notebook… the pcx promo (got it for only P38,+++ with Canon printer) only lasts this month.
Cheers, kamustahan na lang kung may problema.
September 1, 2007 at 8:27 pm
@jowan: might as well say that it’s time to keep your fingers crossed.
just kidding though. i have an argon for almost a year now and thankfully everything’s going well so far.
i think you made a good decision really. i don’t know what it is with other people who go for brand but given the fact that technology advances so fast, it just doesn’t seem to make sense to invest so much on the name when the cutting edge specifications you get today would get you a fraction of its amount of acquisition.
then again that’s just me.
September 4, 2007 at 1:47 am
@jowan, welcome to the Blue users community.
@Patrick, thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Balitaan na lang nga…
September 13, 2007 at 3:04 pm
@ Patrick, wag mo naman akong takutin!
Azur, my radon, is doing well and has been very helpful. Yep, better practical than pa-cute sa starbux with a mac.
then again that’s just me too.
@ Salamat Guilar.
November 12, 2007 at 2:40 pm
got a demo unit w310 today at 33k from pc corner. installing OS and apps right now. i think it’s good value for money, specially with the ati x1300.
November 12, 2007 at 8:15 pm
hi, i installed all the drivers downloaded from the website but i cant seem to get the touchpad volume controls to work, and all the other quick keys. i called tech support but they said that there is no quick key utility installer in the original driver cd. pc corner mistakenly gave me drivers for the w300…
kindly help if you can. thanks.
November 20, 2007 at 1:07 am
hey there guilar!
How’s Gizmo so far? I am a few days away from buying a Blue Radon W310 of my own. I’m getting it at 35k inclusive of the XP Home Ed. It was actually bundled with Vista but I’m not quite ready for the upgrade yet.
So I asked the tech person at PC Evotech if it’s possible to get it with XP instead.
About the heat…Wouldn’t it take its toll on the other notebook components? I mean is it going to affect the other parts in any way… what do you think?
November 26, 2007 at 12:55 pm
Hi Angel!
I’m getting one, too! I decided to get XP as well since most of my gadgets are set for the XP OS. Where will you get your unit? Thanks!
November 28, 2007 at 1:47 pm
I just got my W310 last Monday (25/11/2007) at Octagon Megamall. So far, so good. Vista s~cks though. I have already downgraded to XP. As for the heat, undervolting may help using NHC or RMClock. The best way though, as suggested above is to apply a high-end thermal compound but this may void the warranty.
According to the manufacturer’s specs, the W310 supports up to 2×2GB sticks (4GB). I’m getting a 2GB module hopefully within the week to make my rig 3G. We’ll see if the slots really support 2GB SODIMMs. I also got a 1GB SD card and moved all paging onto it.
Cheers.
December 6, 2007 at 8:56 pm
Hi Guilar!
How are you and how’s gizmo? I’m about to buy myself a w310 this weekend… However, I heard from someone that the display quality of the LCD is not that crisp or clear compared to Toshiba’s trubrite LCD or HP’s brighview. Is this true? Need advice.
Thanks!
December 8, 2007 at 9:58 am
Hi Yuhoo!
How much did you buy your W310 in Octagon Megamall? Is there no available units in PC express?
Thanks!
December 8, 2007 at 10:12 pm
Hey, I was wondering, where’d you get your laptop stand. I have an Argon too (named her Oxy lol). Anyway, I do alot of games on her and I’m quite worried about the heat. Heheh.
Do you use any programs to manage the heat output? Thanks.
December 9, 2007 at 1:27 am
Hi guilar! how is gizmo? I am planning to buy a notebook and the specs that I like are all in W310. However, I like to have the color change. I need some advice.
Thanks.
December 9, 2007 at 1:53 pm
I got mine in a glossy piano finish.
December 9, 2007 at 2:41 pm
mikos, did you have yours gmask or pianted?
December 9, 2007 at 7:32 pm
Nah. I bought it as is. I got it from a store in Greenhills.
December 11, 2007 at 2:25 pm
Mikos, you mean it is second hand?
December 11, 2007 at 3:38 pm
lol. no. its brand new. got it for 32k
intel dual core t320
945M chipset
2gig memory
120HDD
radeon 1300
with a free printer. lol
December 12, 2007 at 9:34 am
Hi dhimplez12,
I bought my W310 (T2350 1.86GHz + freebies) at ~40,000 at 0% 6mos Paylite. Other shops sell it at ~35,000 but on an order basis with a slightly lower CPU speed (T2250 1.73GHz). It is available in 2 colors (piano black and silver). If you want it gmask-ed, there’s a gmask branch in Glorietta. The default colors are already nice though.
I’ve already upgraded to a 160GB SATA HDD and 2GB DDR2 RAM (3GB soon). Vista runs great now (acceptably plays FarCry and CNC3).
Cheers.
December 12, 2007 at 10:01 am
To reduce heat, I have undervolted my W310 using NHC to the voltages below. I’ve been using these values since I bought my laptop. YMMV and USE AT YOU OWN RISK.
CPU: Core Duo T2350 1.86GHz on Vista Home Premium
multiplier/voltage
6/0.9500V
7/0.9500V
8/0.9500V
9/0.9500V
10/0.9500V
11/0.9500V
12/1.0000V
14/1.0750V
You may check your core temps using Intel’s Thermal Analysis Tool
http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/392/mirrors.php
My idle temps are (Core 0) 43C and (Core 1) 45C
My full load temps are 66C/66C (both cores loaded)
My ambient temp is 30C (10am)
December 12, 2007 at 6:14 pm
Mikos, where in greenhills did you buy it? I will buy one on saturday.. need your reply asap
December 12, 2007 at 6:22 pm
Yuhoo!
Thanks for the info.. pc express told me the same specs as yours. i hope ill get a great deal.
December 13, 2007 at 9:50 am
Ei Guys! Seems like Guilar’s buzzzyyyy…
Was intending to buy my own Radon W310 this Christmas. I’ve been so excited since I saw the unit and have saved enough for it. Yesterday though, a tech guy friend dissuaded me from getting Blue laptops… He said that it crashes easily and that tech support sucks. Huhuhu…
It’s a big monetary investment for me kaya I got apprehensive tuloy… Anyone else here who has had the unit for a longer period already? Need advise and good feedback… Will appreciate any comments. *^_^*
December 13, 2007 at 11:56 pm
Hmmm.. I’ve never experienced any blue screens on my W310 even though I normally leave my laptop on at night and hibernate it before bringing it to the office. As with tech support, I have yet to see if servimax support really sucks. IMHO, the W310 as well as the brand is not for newbies that requires more support though (since updated drivers, etc. are hard to find).
December 14, 2007 at 2:16 pm
Hi Yuhoo!
Thanks for the feedback… Hehehe… I hope Guilar doesn’t mind that his blog suddenly turned into a forum.
May I ask what updated drivers are needed? Many thanks! *^_^*
December 15, 2007 at 2:06 pm
Hi Landa,
Updated Radeon X1300 Video, Ricoh Card Reader, and Broadcom Bluetooth Drivers. Updated drives are not actually required for the laptop to work. Its just that new drivers are needed if you need fixes and/or features that the current driver does not provide (i.e. gaming performance on Radeon X1300, additional profiles for Bluetooth, SD card for Vista ReadyBoost support, etc.).
I had the same apprehension on generic laptops but I still ended up buying the W310. Try looking at the model/specifications of the laptop (for the non-branded ones) rather than the brand name, otherwise get a branded one for peace of mind. Just remember that all electronic devices break.
December 16, 2007 at 11:20 am
Looks like a perfect specs for first notebook pc.
Planning to buy this Christmas as a gift to my younger sister. She already have my old sempron desktop, but lately she’s been complaining about lots of error. She’s not that techie-minded and she’s studying in Baguio and I’m here in QC, so I can’t do anything about her complaints, but to keep my mouth shut from tell her my plan
. Benta ko na lang yung ibang parts ng desktop nya sa tipidpc, hahaha.
So any info on new models with better specs and/or cheaper price that might come out before Christmas?
December 17, 2007 at 12:50 pm
I forgot the name of the store but it’s on the 3rd floor of VMall. Beside the store that sells alot of projectors.
Anyway, tech support is ok. They don’t have a phone TS but they really respond to e-mails real nice. Ive been to Servimax to get my drivers since I downgraded to XP Pro and they were very accomodating, installed the drivers for me (they let me observe), and even burned a copy on a DVD and copied all the drivers to my flash drive.
Performance wise, it is very reliable. I cant remember when was the last time I turned it off lol.
My worry is just the heat. I guess, with all laptops, heat is a concern.
December 17, 2007 at 4:09 pm
Hi Mikosci,
What drivers are needed if you downgrade from Vista to XP. I downgraded mine and it is very very slow…. I hate it! Please advice. Thanks!

hey!
Glad you guys are making this entry lively! after a long break from dizzying work, I’m almost back for more bloggin’
please continue to use this blog as a message board for Blue Radon users. That was my intent in the first place! Since there is a lack of feedback about this product,I figured I’d attract some users to form a mini community. If there are more questions, please let me know.
January 17, 2008 at 2:05 pm
Nice to hear from you, Guilar! I take it Gizmo’s still up and about? I’m getting my BRad tom! Yipee!!! (Yup, named it na! Hehehe. ;-P)
Your review, the forum that ensued and great feedback from Sean De Jesus, Editor of PC World, did me in. What’s more, you posted on this blog again just in time! It tells me Gizmo’s still in tiptop shape. Great, great signs for me. Hehehe. ;-P
I’ll let you guys know hows things are once I get my lappy tom. Wheeeee… Really can’t wait!
Best,
Landa *^_^*
January 17, 2008 at 11:57 pm
Hi Landa,
yes, Guilar’s up and running smoothly. I’ve updated my games list in the Games page of my blog, and those new games run pretty well (although Kohan 2 is like 5 years old already).
Hope you have fun and enjoy BRad!
Thanks for visiting my blog!
January 20, 2008 at 3:15 am
hello Guilar!
just read your blog and gave me confidence to buy my own Blue Radon W310 for 38K with 2GB ram and 160gb hard drive this coming saturday..Ü does anyone know on how much would it cost me to gmask the Radon with the carbon fiber design? thanks!â™
January 20, 2008 at 12:51 pm
Hi Atchoo_420!
Wow, welcome to the growing number of Blue Radon users!
I also want to have my Gizmo G-masked. I just visited the G-mask store in Greenbelt 1 last Christmas and told me that Blue laptops have a free coating on the inside panel (near the touchpad). The price you have to pay is just for the outside cover. Check out their website for more details. I wanted to have a ‘personalized’ design, but it’s expensive for me. Might save up for it, though.
Hope you will be sarisfied by your Radon the way I have! (wi-fi’s great! – am using it now to connect to the net at the hotel).
January 20, 2008 at 9:27 pm
Ei, ei, ei Guilar! Hi everyone!
Finally, my very own Radon (a.k.a. BRad) is in my arms! Yebah!!!
I’m really happy, happy! Can you tell? Hehehe.
Will give more feedback once “we” get settled. Happy work week everyone!
Cheers,
Landa *^_^*
January 20, 2008 at 10:15 pm
â™ yup, there is a 500 php discount for blue users at gmask..Ü when I get my radon on sat I’ll have it gmasked with the carbon fiber design.â™
January 25, 2008 at 1:49 am
WOW. No certifications needed?
January 25, 2008 at 5:55 pm
Mikosci, Basta Blue ang brand ng laptop. I’ve already asked. It’s that simple!
Atchoo_420, what does the carbon fiber design look like? pakita mo naman pix ng Radon mo pag na-Gmask na.

ei guilar do you know were to buy a good wireless router??
February 1, 2008 at 2:10 pm
Nope. Haven’t bought one yet. Some are available at Octagon (D-Link), ranging to around 5k-7k (last time I checked…or was that 3k to 5k…)

For a good router:
Try Netgear WGT624.
February 6, 2008 at 9:26 pm
Ei Landa!
Kudos to you for starting your own review and thanks for linking me. BRad looks pretty good!
HI Mikosci,
Thanks for the suggestion. I’m really planning on getting a wireless router, but it may have to wait after we move to our new place next year.

BTW, did any of you guys get a screen protector for your units? I got mine at CD-R King. If you have plans, be sure to ask for a 13.3″ WIDE. They initially gave me the regular 13.3″ and it didn’t fit. Just a heads-up, in case. Happy day, everyone!
February 13, 2008 at 11:41 am
Hi, Atchoo_420
That’s great! Keep on enjoying your Radon
Hi Landa,
Thanks for the heads up. I’ll want to get a screen protector too.
February 20, 2008 at 10:00 am

February 23, 2008 at 11:43 pm
Hi Yay,
XP Drivers for which devices?
February 24, 2008 at 1:40 pm
Hi Yay,
Tech Support gave me a CD for XP when I got my unit. How come you were told they don’t have any? Who did you talk to?
February 24, 2008 at 4:33 pm
Hi, i bought a blue radon w310, unfortunately i had to reformat it due to virus. after i got it back from the service center where i bought it,it has no longer a bluetooth capable, i can no longer send pictures, mp3 from my laptop to mobile phone though i can still use the wi-fi. do you have any idea what happend or what would i do? thanks
February 24, 2008 at 6:46 pm
Guys I have one major concern about blue and here it is….
How’s the hinges of Blue Radon? Sana it doesnt suck as much as NEO’s…
Thanks!
February 25, 2008 at 9:36 am
Hi Ian,
Install the Bluetooth driver. You may get the drivers from http://www.ilikeblue.net/support_drivers.htm
Hi Archie,
As far as I can tell, it doesn’t.
February 25, 2008 at 12:24 pm
@ Yuhoo
That’s nice to hear. So does it fold smoothly?
Actually yun na lang ang last consideration ko before I will finally buy my own blue radon. Blue radon is really enticing for its value and for the lack of negative feedbacks for more than a year now.
thanks:)
February 25, 2008 at 4:36 pm
Hi Archie,
Yes, it does fold smoothly. You may want to try it yourself at computer shops that do have demo units (i.e. Octagon). It does not have any lever or lock that you need to press or push to release/open up the LCD panel (unlike most laptops).

We had the same problem in its bluetooth capability i format my laptop using the recoverydisc
i tried that, installed it, but the software doesn’t recognize the hardware. its not even saying its there.
when i try to press the button the light lits up but the problem is there’s no bluetooth icon in the system tray to show that bluetooth is now active.
i even checked it in the control panel and every time i try to search for bluetooth device i couldn’t find out. i also allow other cellphone to search for my laptop but they could’nt
any tweaks ?
TIA
February 29, 2008 at 5:46 pm
Seems like Tia’s concern would really require some attention. Hope I dont get that problem when I buy my radon on March.
Anyway guys, wats the diff between the NW and the NWX model?
March 5, 2008 at 7:57 pm
Hi Jdash,
Is your BT device working already? I’ll try to install XP on a spare drive over the weekend and see what happens.
- yuhoo
March 7, 2008 at 9:48 am
@Yuhoo
not yet bro. btw im using vista.
i always need to plug an external bluetooth dongle to use my bluetooth.
still could’nt figure out how to get this done. software is not detecting the hardware equipment itself.
thanks
March 12, 2008 at 7:13 am
hi, thanks for the advice with regards to my problem, i can now use my bluetooth. my next problem is, i bought a pc game, airstrike and emergency 911, after installing it and clicking the icon, the screen would turn black then back to desktop. it wont play. i just had it reformated last month and use the recovery disc. please give me some advice so that i can play it. i love pc games. thanks in advance.
March 15, 2008 at 12:44 pm
I think what you have there is a compatibility issue.
Try setting your Account Control off in Windows Vista User Accounts. Update your game with patches, update your OS with Windows Update and try to look for Forums on that specific game you have and find out if they have certain issues.
Good luck.
March 19, 2008 at 8:52 am
hey guys, I have XP and Vista Ultimate as my operating systems on my radon.. they both run smoothly, only problem is, when I’m on vista, I can’t use my bluetooth device unless I turn it off which means turning the wifi off as well so I can’t use my phone as a webcam while using vista.. when I’m on XP everything works fine.. does anyone know how to fix this? I’m currently installing vista SP1, woohoo!
March 23, 2008 at 10:31 am
@Jdash
The leftmost switch on the upper right part of your W310 turns on/off both the internal Bluetooth and the WiFi adapter. It may have been turned off or try reinstalling the driver.
@Ian
Try upgrading your video card and DirectX drivers. I’ve been playing CNC3 Kane Ed. with no problems so far. Also, check the game’s compatibility with your current setup.
March 28, 2008 at 1:51 am
@yuhoo
have done that. well i guess i have to take this to their engineers to have them check this.
April 7, 2008 at 2:10 pm
Thanks for your excellent review! After looking around for weeks, I funally ended up buying a Blue W310 from Villman. It comes with a Core Duo 2.0 Ghz. I had the Ram uprgraded to 4GB and the HDD to 320GB. It was bundled with XP which I prefer over Vista so that it can run faster. I love it! Lots of power in a light and handy package!
April 7, 2008 at 2:13 pm
Oh yeah! I forgot to mention, good value for money!
April 10, 2008 at 11:13 pm
@Yuhoo
just what i thought so, i had my laptop checked at the service center that they gave me. Actually they had to replace the whole board of the laptop due to my blue tooth device is not really working at all.
thanks
April 17, 2008 at 10:10 am
what is the max memory capacity for w310 radon ?
is it 2gig or 4gig ?
thanks
April 18, 2008 at 9:07 am
4 gig.
April 18, 2008 at 2:39 pm
Guilar: hi there!
wow… and back then there was like what? only 2 of us actually talking about Blue notebooks!!* nice to see you already hosting a quasi-community of blue users here btw.
To anyone contemplating whether blue can talk years EOL-wise, I can say my argon’s still pretty much alive after nearly 2 years.
*i didn’t mean that to make Guilar sound old folks.
)
April 19, 2008 at 1:29 am
Hey, Patrick, nice to hear from you again.
Yup, um, this kinda grew ‘organically’ into a quasi-community of Blue users, which was actually my intent.
I’m writing this entry on Gizmo, in a, um, far off place again – on a wireless connection.
Oh, and I’ve loaded more games on it too… just to keep my mind off loneliness when I’m cast away again on another assignment / misadventure.
To those who have made it possible to learn more about the Blue notebooks (particularly Radons) – THANK YOU!!! Keep ‘em coming!
PS. I feel old lately…. but really, I’m not THAT old…. hehehe
April 28, 2008 at 2:05 am
Hi question?
i just bought a w310 radon.
currently running vista software on it.
I’m planning to downgrade its OS to XP.
Can someone give me the instructions in this.
Thanks
April 28, 2008 at 11:58 pm
@fliptop
just format your harddrive and boot your XP installation CD and your done! and question, W310 is already hased out 2months ago, where did you buy yours? they stopped producing W310 because they’re upgrading the specs and it would now cost around 50K instead of 33k..
May 7, 2008 at 1:17 pm
@Atchoo
i’ve bought it from a friend around 29k, coz she is buying new one again. its cheap for me.
having this in mint condition and still in warranty. ^_^
thanks btw i’ve got it. switch it to xp to use other programs that are compatible with xp.

Hi Guilar! Hi Bluers!
How’s it going? How’s everyone doing, lappies included? I hope all’s well…
Have a little sad sharing… Brad’s not doing so well. I’m experiencing major tech problems with my Blue Radon. Has anyone had these concerns?
1) On May 5, while trying to use the dial up connection (which I have been using since I purchased the unit), I encountered “Error 692: There was a hardware failure in the modem (or other connecting device)”. I couldn’t connect to the internet using dial-up and using my mobile phone’s internet service (which was never a problem prior to this date) BUT had no problems connecting via wifi connection. I was initially advised to uninstall and re-install the modem driver but to no avail.
2) Last night, May 6, as I was getting ready to work, my laptop refused to boot. The power button was lit but the screen remained black and the booting beep didn’t sound. Can’t use Brad at all now!
I’ve already gotten in touch with Blue’s Tech Support and they’ve asked me to bring the unit either back to the shop where I bought it or to Servimax for checking. Would it be best, in terms of quicker service, to bring it directly to Servimax instead? Whacha guys think?
I feel so sad and bad!
Have had Brad since January 2008 only. Please help me pray all will be well. Argh!!! I hate tech problems like this! Especially since I have tons of files saved on my hard disk already.
Any feedback, insight or notes will be much appreciated. Or perhaps, it’s just consoling I need? Huhuhu…
Many thanks & best regards to everyone!
Cheers,
Landa *^_^*
May 7, 2008 at 7:45 pm
Hi Landa!
I’m saddened by the news you bring. Gizmo’s still OK these days. It’s past his 1 year anniv last November, and I’ve exposed it to a lot of extreme temperatures and environments (hot and humid back home to dry, cold weather out here). I even left it on for a about 4 hours while i ‘accidentally’ slept one night.
Sometimes, Gizmo hangs, like when it won’t load after i enter the password for my windows xp profile. It happened to me last night. I simply ‘col rebooted’ it by pressing the power switch and restrating it again. Just figured it’s a typical glitch.
I’m currently using it to type this message of hope.
I think bringing it to Servimax with all the necessary papers (receipts) would be best, but it depends on accessibility of the nearest servimax center. Pat had an experience of bringing his Blue laptop to Servimax and they did a pretty good job at restoring it (heard his lappie’s still ok). His blog is in my blogroll, by the way.
Please do tell us how everything goes and we’ll be praying that Brad will be OK afterwards.
Here’s to getting Brad up and running again!

May 9, 2008 at 10:20 pm
Hi Guilar!
Thanks much for the message of hope! It is appreciated.
I had quite a tough week and my weekend’s full, too, so the soonest I can bring Brad to Servimax will be on Monday.
Tech Support got in touch with me and said, “…with regards to your connection problem i think its more on a modem failure.Your second problem could be caused by lcd assy , inverter or memory malfunction.”
I’m fervently praying it’s nothing serious. I’m hoping that all will be well and I’ll be able to bring Brad home on the same Monday as well. I really hope there won’t be any data loss, too. Help me pray please?
Thanks much for the well wishes! Will keep you guys posted about this.
Take care & Godspeed!
Best,
Landa *^_^*
May 10, 2008 at 1:15 pm
Hi Landa,
Guilar’s right, it’s better if you bring your laptop straight to servimax. Not only will you get to have it fixed in a shorter time since it takes time for the shop from where you bought that to arrange for it to be taken to servimax, it would be nice for you to get to actually use the warranty to work for you.
Like what Guilar said, I’ve already had the chance to test the service of servimax. I can say they were professional, courteous and helpful so I don’t see any problem for you. Just make sure you bring the official receipt when you do have it serviced. It might interest you that the problem I had then sounds somewhat like that you detailed, (in no 2.)
Also don’t worry much about your files. I’m almost sure that your hard disk’s intact because that doesn’t look like the one with the problem there. The only problem you might have is if you need some of those files urgently, (as in your neck’s on the line if you don’t come up with them while they’re working on the unit.)
Finally just an advice from someone who’s been using laptops for more than a decade now, try to overcome your disdain of tech problems because it will help you handle problems you might encounter in the future. The good thing about the popularity of the internet at present is that help’s not that hard to find anymore.
May 10, 2008 at 3:00 pm
Got my Blue from Kalibo. Reaalllly fantastic, with my whole family going savvy for the hi tech.
My sister in Texas is really near with the New Yahoo Messenger voice and cam features.
Hoping to hear from relatives and friends who were long unheard of and now are just a click away. Thanks for sharing your ideas, my Blue Radon is just what i needed!!!
May 12, 2008 at 3:50 pm
Hi Guilar
i got that before error 692
what phone are you using? you should install your phone software first so that the phone will be detected by the computer, allow your computer to detect your hardware first then afterwards try to connect using DUN connection.
But first try to bring your computer to servimax to get it checked
I’m using lgku350 as my modem smart connection so far so good.
May 27, 2008 at 10:58 am
Hello there.
I finally found a sensible reviewer for the laptop that I wanted to buy. THanks so much for having a fair review on it.
I think I have decided on the same thing you bought except that the one I’ll be buying will have a 160 gig SATA HD. and a Vista Home premium OS, and that’s my biggest concern. I wonder what else you can advise me.♥
May 27, 2008 at 3:09 pm
Hi Fliptop,
Actually, I haven’t installed any phone on my laptop yet. I’ll try to find time to get it to a Servimax center, but it’s jsut a random nuissance at times – just hangs when I enter my user profile in Windows XP.
Hi RisheeWishee,
Thanks for finding my review helpful!
I’ll definitiely go with the 160gb SATA hard disk. I’m running short of space on what Gizom has for the games I want to play.
As for Vista Home, I guess me and some of the users here would agree that the Radon may be underpowered for it. Some even reverted back to using the XP (which I find OK – I won’t make the switch yet until I find most of the games I like playing able to run on Vista withou and issues…hehehe). Vista does tax your graphics card and the X1300 is like two generations ago.
But then again, I haven’t tested it yet with Vista, so if your computer store can prove to you that Vista will run smoothly on a Radon, then I you can have a go at it.
Hope this bit of info helps!

hi, i need help in updating my latest audio driver(realtek) in my Wseries. for VISTA
I also asked servimax to help me in this one but i can’t prove to them that there is a conflict in my motherboard and vista in terms of its sound device.
What they only do to check if there’s a problem in my laptop is to replace its harddisk which is using XP which works fine.
I’m using VISTA home edt.
coz when i use its the driver which that from the package & i even downloaded a software in their website. http://www.ilikeblue.net
to try
but still not working.
but when i switch to Xp OS, the driver that came from the website is just working fine.
it sounds weird but i can’t use Vista if i can’t play any sound on it.
June 9, 2008 at 10:15 am
Hi Shyder,
Try using the Vista driver from Realtek.
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false
This driver worked for me when I was still using Vista on my W310. It now runs on Linux.

July 8, 2008 at 9:20 am
Fliptop,
Everything works out of the box for Ubuntu 8.04 on the W310.
July 18, 2008 at 6:11 pm
hi there fellow blue radon users have my laptop since april and functioning very well, how many games can you install in this device as of now i have three stronghold crusader, nba live and need for speed. I love this laptop but whenever i go to some dealers theyre comparing it to neo
July 19, 2008 at 10:18 pm
Hi Jowan,
I’m sorry to hear you’re having problems with the keyboard. Hope you brouhgt it o a servimax service center already. I think that’s the best case for now. If it still has problems, I do hope it’s still under warranty so you can get a new one that’s worry-free.
Hi Mikee,
Check out the ‘PC GAMES’ tab on this blog and you’ll see ALL the games installed in Gizmo. it’s my entertainment center on looong assignments away from my family.
It’s Radeon X1300 is limited and may not play most of the recent games, but I’m a picky gamer and fortunately, the best genre games around that I like are about 2 years old. Gizmo can pretty well handle it.
Guys, I need help decding:
We’ll be moving in to our smaller living space next year and I’m thinking of getting an equally smaller computer. I’m wonderin if a desktop replacement is a worthy solution – a 15.4″ laptop – rather than a desktop. I know the limitation of having a laptop is that it’s not as easily upgradeable. But what else should I consider?
Advance thanks to all of you who’d have time to put in a suggestion!

August 9, 2008 at 11:43 am
Hey guys,
I’m surprised to see how really fast the prices dropped. I got 2 of these in black color preloaded with Win Vista (OEM) (supplied for 2 managers that I work for, as a free lance). I got it at P29,950 only with these specs:
Radon-NWX (W310)
Intel Core Duo T2250 (1.73 GHz)
1GB DDR2 (667MHz), 1 module w/ extra slot available
13.3″ Wide XGA, Glare Type
ATI Mobility Radeon X1300
160GB SATA 5400RPM
DVD Dual
Intel Pro / Wireless 3945abg
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium
Bluetooth, Touch capacitance controls
1.87 kgs, Aluminum Magnesium Alloy body
6C Battery
65W AC Adapter and 3ft cord (3pin)
Drivers and Win Vista Home Prem (not SP1 yet) Discs
Blue laptop bag (messenger bag convertible to back pack type)
I used to build desktops for them and recommend Neo but I just thought of trying out Blue because it was within the budget, the desired weight and size, and specs wise as well.
At first, they would not want vista (prefer xp) because they heard that vista is a memory hog and they are not yet familiar with the interface yet(eventually they got used to it after teaching them). It’s been 2 months from now since they have acquired the 2 laptops and the units have already traveled nationwide, which they use for presentations and business computing…oops which reminds me I should have bought them Vista Business Edition but Blue wasn’t offering that edition. Anyways, I downloaded the Vista SP1 standalone installer (~450MB) and upgraded it and I have not encountered any problems at all (tip: upgrade to SP1 from a clean install).
I agree that it heats up a lot on the left side but it’s tolerable. With 1 gig of Ram, it was enough for their business computing but it ran aero flawlessly. Thanks to the ati X1300 gpu.
After a good experience from them, I just thought I wanna get one for my own.
August 9, 2008 at 4:58 pm
Hi Jevan,
Where did you buy the units?
Those are good deals!
Wanna buy one too.
I want to upgrade by additional 1GB mem.
Don’t know how much it would cost though.
August 11, 2008 at 7:57 pm
I just forgot the name of the store. you know gilmore right? yung store beside pizza hut (not pc options). the last time i came there, there were 2 units left but for sure they will be having stocks coz mabenta nga daw yun.

HI all i have a problem with my blue laptop.
every time i try shutdown my laptop(radon). im having a problem in its system clock. its returning to year 2006 in which i often change it to the CMOS setup but after saving it for couple of times. It comes back again after turning off my laptop for a while.
any idea in this problem.
your comments will be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance
January 24, 2009 at 12:50 am
Hi Kino,
Sorry for replying late. Looks like you’ve got a BIOS/CMOS battery problem. Sa desktop ko nangyari yan, but i lived with just ‘pressing f1 to restore defaults.’ Try checking the manual kung paano mapapalitan ito.
Of course, I’m not an expert so I can be wrong. Hope others also can confirm this.
Thanks for visiting my blog!
